Lack of Role Models is Igniting Rate of Girls Dropping out of School at Chilipa CDSS in Mangochi

There have been alarming rate of girls who have been dropping out of school at Chilipa Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) in Mangochi which 30 have stopped attending classes this academic year alone.

The Deputy Head Teacher at the school, Cosmas Jere said they are really affected with the situation and they are in the process of putting up some measures to stop the tendency.

“As a school we are really affected since this is the first time we have experienced such an alarming rate of girls dropping out of our school but we are glad to inform you that as a management we are trying all our level best to overcome the situation,” Jere Said.

One of the students who have dropped out from the school, Maimuna Ibrahim said she dropped out of the school because lacked role models who could be motivating her to continue with her education.

“Our school has only one female teacher and it has not been able to send students to public universities for four years now, so am not seeing any reason to go further with my education,” she said.

Member of Parliament of the Area Shadreck Namalomba encouraged the students to continue with their education as this will help them in future. Namalomba visited the school to motivate the students and donated some learning materials such as exercise books, mathematical Instruments and calculators to students who have been performing well
